New Internet Speed Reached

Recently a group of researchers from the University of Tokyo have broken Internet speed records, twice in on day. They are researching on the high speed Internet2. They sent 7.67 gigabits per second using standard protocol. Then, after that they sent 9.08 gigabits per second using modified protocol. Both of these tests were done over a 20,000 mile span. Internet2 is planning on building a network with a capacity of 100 gigabits per second. You could get the movie the Matrix in seconds.

That's pretty cool. I'd be willing to settle for a little less speed than that. :) What I'd really love to see is consistency in maintaining a minimum speed. There are so many applications that would appear. I hate when I'm watching a video online, and I experience periods of poor performance. The picture sometimes freezes while the data transfer tries to catch up. This is not acceptable to me, so I'm not too interested in Internet-based video on demand, for example.
