IBM offers software to the military

"IBM's Unusual Gift to the Military" Union Tribune 4/3/07

This article involves Arabic-English translation software that IBM owns. IBM has offered to give the military $45 million worth of this technology to honor an employee's son who was seriously injured in Iraq. Other employees from IBM, who have also fought in Iraq, said that the lack of Arabic translators has made it very difficult to communicate. After word spread through the company, CEO Samuel Palmisano wrote to President Bush offering to make this technology available to the troops. The software that is used is called MASTOR, which stands for multilingual automatic speech translator software.
