In this article they talk about how people have been putting Linux on the Playstation 3. This is not uncommon. For awhile people were doing this to the PS2 until Sony remover the port that allowed the upload of the operating system. The problem with the PS3 is Sony is preventing access to one of the key system parts that is critical to using the PS3 and Linux to its full potential. There is a petition to have Sony remove the block but as of yet Sony has not commented.
