I read this article today about a video blogger named Joshua Wolf. He was just released from a 226 day prison stint because he would not release video footage he took from a street protest in 2005. He sold some of the footage to a San Francisco news station and put a little bit more of his footage on his website as a vlog.
“Wolf had been found in contempt for refusing to obey a subpoena to turn over his video from a July 2005 protest during the G-8 economic summit where anarchists were suspected of vandalizing a San Francisco police car. One city officer was struck during the rally and his skull was fractured.”
He was released from jail because he reached an agreement with his prosecutors. What do you guys think? Do you think the federal government had the right to toss this man in jail because he would not release information that he procured?
I think he had every right to keep the info all to himself if he wanted. He took the video and he put out as much as he wanted. He did it at his own discretion and I think the first amendment should have protected him.
Check out the article here.
