Media giant Viacom vs. YouTube

The multi media company Viacom is suing the web site YouTube for mass copyright infringement. I mean it was bound to happen right? Since users are the contributors to what is accessible on the site, they may or may not have any idea that they are infringing upon a company’s copyright.

Viacom is suing from $1 billion plus! Yeah, that’s right, one billion dollars. I don’t think that Viacom should be suing YouTube for that much money. YouTube has put in more efforts in scanning the site for copyrighted material. For example, you can hardly find full American Idol performances on the site anymore because FOX asked the site to remove any files with actual broadcasts of the show. With so many users and so many videos on the site, it is hard to catch everything floating around that has been uploaded. I do think that if Viacom is so adamant on removing their content on the site, then they should have contacted YouTube in the same vain that FOX did to let them know that certain medias should be removed from the site.

I’ve experienced putting a video on my favorite list only to come back to it and it says its been removed for copyright.

Viacom is just trying to extort YouTube because they have a great thing going.
