Today in Paris, a French conventional rail train with a 25,000 horsepower engine broke the world speed record reaching 357.2 mph. The last record was set in 1990, also by a French conventional rail train at the speed of 320.2 mph. The new V150 train demonstration was more than “just to break the record”; it also meant to showcase technology that France is trying to sell to countries such as China. Initially, the train was meant to beat the Japanese’s magnetically levitated train which hit 361 mph in 2003. But obviously the new conventional rail train’s speed fall short. Because countries are now turning to bullet trains, this demonstration effort successfully advertises France’s high speed technology.
