Sony copy protection makes DVDs unplayable on some players (even Sony)

Think that newly released Sony DVD movie will play on your Sony DVD player? According to this story, it might not. Sony has added new copy protection to its DVD titles that makes it incompatible with certain DVD players, including the Sony DVP-CX995V DVD player which is still sold today.
Sounds to me like Sony is shooting itself in the foot again.

Some of the effective titles include "Casino Royale,' "Stranger Than Fiction" and "The Holiday". Maybe a boycott of these titles would send Sony a message.
