To whom it may concern,
The Internet is coming to automobile later this year. We will be able to surf the Web, download music, and check e-mail in your car. Everyone knows the average person can’t go anywhere without have to check e-mail or do some type of research we traveling.
According to Dan Tynan writer for PC World, 2007 will be the year technology and cars will mesh. Ford Sync already has a hands free-cell phone gizmo running on Microsoft’s Auto operating system. This system will accommodate MP3 players using voice commands and even works with iPods. In the future it will incorporate Wi-Fi and download e-mail while driving.
Autonet Mobile (autonetmobile.com) will have a book-size router plugs into your cigarette lighter. It will be broadcasting a secure 802.11g network in your car. Autonet allows that everyone can share one connection, which will cost you all $399.00 for a router and $50.00 a month for access to Autonet’s network.
In the future, broadband will be available for vehicles. Aeris is working with “non-US Car Company” that can download data up to 2 megabits per second.
As Internet Protocol version 6 becomes common, systems will be able to have weather, traffic patterns and more. IPv6 is currently being built in Europe and Japan cars. The IPv6 allows trillions of IP address to be available.
Soon when traveling, you can designated a driver and then be able to surf the net.

Raul

Just the thought of having internet in the car is a little scary. Law enforcement already wants to ban cell phones but with this new technology, the police have a bigger distraction to worry about.
Fortunately, driving while talking on a cell phone will be illegal in California starting July 1, 2008. So many times I see a driver who isn't paying attention and sure enough -- they are holding a cell phone up to their ear.
Hopefully these new technologies will be designed to entertain the passengers without distracting the drivers.
I guess eventually computers will be doing the driving.
