Open Technology Adoption

Various government branches seem to be accepting open source technology. I admit I do not know that much about it, except that it is FREE. The article mentioned how "open source" technology is faster and more efficient in certain situations than current proc protocol allows for. Army General Nick Justice said,"When we rolled into Baghdad, we did it using open source,"...he went on to say the US Army was the single largest install for Red Hat Linux. General Justice said he was their largest customer. There are other promoters of open technology talked about in the article.
